Remembering . . .

"For they that have used the office of a deacon well

 purchase to themselves a good degree,

 and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus."

1 Timothy 3:13
Deacon Lee Chester Elliott

January 9, 1944 - September 14, 2011

Deacon Elliott was a native of Ashland, Mississippi. He grew up in the Ashland Church of Christ and retained his faithful membership there until relocating in Rochester, New York, in the 1960's.  In Rochester, he was initially a member of the Reynolds Street Church of Christ and later a charter member of Central Church of Christ.  At Central, he was a diligent worker and church leader.  He served the church with faithfulness as he had done the U.S. Army as a dutiful soldier.

Deacon Benjamin J. Joe

October 17, 1916 - June 7, 2009

Deacon Joe was born in Albany, Georgia, and, along with his family, later moved to Arcadia, Florida.  He became a member of the church under the tutelage of Brother Robert Preston and Brother Joe Soloman.  He moved to Rochester, New York, during the 1960's and found employment at the University of Rochester where he worked for many years.  Deacon Joe became a charter member of the Central Church of Christ (Rochester, NY) and faithfully served the church in several capacities. He was married to his loving wife, Mary, for seventy years.

1 Timothy 3:8-10

"Likewise must the deacons be grave,

not doubletongued,

not given to much wine,

not greedy of filthy lucre;

Holding the mystery of the faith

in a pure conscience.

And let these also first be proved;

then let them use the office

 of a deacon,

being found blameless."

Colossians 3:23-24

"And whatsoever ye do,

do it heartily,

as to the Lord,

and not unto men,

Knowing that

 of the Lord

ye shall receive

 the reward

of the inheritance:

for ye serve the Lord Christ."
